This spectacular ocean road has been named “ the most beautiful car journey in the world” (The Guardian 2006) and “ construction of the century” (2005). This is a unique stretch of road which takes you right out to the ocean’s edge. It connects Averøy with the mainland via a series of small islands and islets spanned by a total of eight bridges over 8274 meters. The Atlantic road is a national tourist route and provides an unbroken experience. It gives you a close-up of coast and ocean, of culture and history.
There are four panoramic view- and rest areas with facilities in bold architectural forms along the Atlantic Road. Here you can experience both nature and architecture in great interaction. Some of the viewing platforms are also popular with anglers.
What is so special about the Atlantic Ocean Road is that you will get a unique nature experience at any season. The winter has it´s own charm, spring comes early, summer is delightful, and fall dramatic. Fall is the most exciting time here. Visit when waves slashing against the road, and enjoy the forces of nature at it’s wildest.
